Hawaiian Flower Gardens

Hawaiian flower gardens may include a number of different and unique plants that you would not be able to find naturally in many parts of the United States. These plants are not entirely unique to Hawaii alone, as many are from the South Pacific region of the world. These plants tend to grow well only in rainforest and tropical environments that are warm and experience a lot of rainfall.

The State of Hawaii contains several botanical gardens that are open to the public for viewing. Many of these gardens are research gardens that are affiliated with the cities of the state, which feature municipal gardens. There are also several public and private botanical gardens as well that are open for viewing by visitors, although most of these gardens do not keep records on the plants that are in their collections. However, these Hawaiian flower gardens do contain superb collections of the flora that is unique to the state.

Hawaiian flower gardens play a large part in the preservation of the unique vegetation that is native to the state. There are several gardens that are located on the Big Island including the Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden, National Tropical Botanical Garden, Waimea Arboretum & Botanical Garden, and Honolulu Botanical Gardens. All of these Hawaiian flower gardens are a part of the Center for Plant Conservation's National Collection. This organization is charged with the duty of preserving endangered plants in the US.

Each of the islands of the State of Hawaii also features several botanical gardens as well. These Hawaiian flower gardens are both public and private, although most are open to the public for viewing. These Hawaiian flower gardens include a variety of plants including collections of both Old and New World orchids, palms, aroids, heliconia, ginger, herbs, spices, dyes, beverage plants and poisons, primitive plants from around the world, hybrid orchid species and several different types of trees.
